California is a "state", which means that for any reason at any time, or no reason at all to be released .... unless there are procedures within the company, or contract work, or if you suspect discrimination or other illegal activities. Your friend is probably bad luck. The focus on a new first job. Then return to this issue at a later date. I think you have to bring one years time, against his employer for discrimination.

A will is simply that, as desired. Please give a reason, the case is much harder to win his friend when they have done.

He must demonstrate that he one of the few reasons that may not be terminated.

what is this "at will" means - no reason is necessary to exclude or withdraw at any time thereafter.
